MONTGOMERY — “These five seniors have set the standard for Catholic Softball,” said Whitney Toole, coach of the Knights. “They were freshman when I came to Catholic and they bought in to what we were trying to do and haven’t looked back. I am so proud of them and they deserve to have a day that’s about them. We will have big shoes to fill next year when they are gone, but for now we’re focusing in the goals we have set for the rest of the season and what we want to accomplish.”

Alanna Aiken, Chloe Walden, McKenzie Norton, Nona Johnson and Hannah Parrish were feted before the game and followed it up by making short work of the visiting Parks Crossing Thunderbirds leaving them featherless and broken in the midst of a 16-1, three-inning beatdown.

Johnson finished the day with a pair of doubles. Norton barreled up a triple and plated three. Mallory Hildebrand doubled twice and pushed two home. Waldon, CeCe Crawford and Mally Barranco finished the day scoring two runs each.

While the celebration focused on the seniors – Tuesday’s win also served as the coming out party for eighth-grade pitcher Jennifer Looney.

Toole: “Jenn really stepped up (on Tuesday). It was her first varsity start pitching and she did really well. As an eighth-grader, I think she gained some confidence and that will be very helpful in the future.”

In her varsity debut, Looney worked a three-inning no hitter, striking out six and giving up one unearned run.

Montgomery Catholic carried the momentum from Tuesday over into Wednesday where they shutout RE Lee 15-0 in another three-inning affair and will host Jeff Davis on Thursday.

Against the Generals Carissa Gilbert and Looney combined to fan eight Lee batters, allowing just one hit.

Aiken finished the day with two each: hits, RBIs and runs scored. Walden and Crawford pushed three runners home. Hildebrand, Johnson and Parrish finished the exercise with two RBIs each.
