TALLASSEE — This was going to be a tough tournament and even drew coaches whose tournaments had already finished to the banks of the Tallapoosa to watch the showdown between No. 2 Tallassee and No. 4 Brew Tech. For this recap – the story doesn’t just lie within a boxscore.

“This game is what an area championship should be, two top-four teams in the state battling it out,” said Brian Pittman, coach of the Brew Tech Rams. “A couple of calls didn’t go our way, but I love the fight and the effort we put in.”

Beauregard came to Tallassee looking to play spoiler and was almost successful dropping an 8-6 decision to Tallassee in the first round and then a 3-1 decision to Brew Tech in the Elimination Final. The Hornets stung pitchers from Tallassee, Pike Road and Brew Tech for multiple runs and made head coaches sweat.

Airele Anderson and Gabby York (two-run shot) went yard for the Rams in the win over the Hornets. Berkley Wilson drove home Mikayla Williams for the final Beuargard run of the season.

With the Hornets dispatched, focused turned back to the championship showdown between Tallassee and Brew Tech.

The Rams – who are a threat to go yard at any point in the line up – jumped on the Tigers early thanks to a dinger from Wilson and then a three-run shot from Taniyah Brown. Brew Tech held on to the 4-0 lead until the fourth when Tallassee’s bats exploded for five runs.

CoCo Baynes laid down a bunt that was misplayed by the second-baseman covering first that allowed Ella Thrash to score. Chloe Davidson grounds into a fielder’s choice throw that allows Baynes to score: 4-2.

Lexie Love singled to move the runner and then took second on an error in the Rams outfield while attempting to field a foul ball that scored Davidson: 4-3.

Love scores on a sacrifice to first by Brooke Royster. Jenna Manning singled to right and scored Abi Davis and give the Tigers a 5-4 lead.

Davidson doubled in the fourth to score Baynes and put the Tigers up 6-4.

The Rams answer, though when Anderson singled to left to push home Johnson: 6-5 with Brew Tech now trailing.

Davidson singles in the fifth to plate Baynes and give the Tigers a 7-5 lead. Anderson – from Brew Tech – in the sixth singled to score Johnson and cut the margin to a run, 7-6.

That’s where the score remained until the seventh when a groundout, a flyout and a strikeout ended the game, giving the win and the area championship to Tallassee.

Alexis Walls and Dadvidson combined to work the game and pick up the win. Walls (who got the W) worked six and fanned two despite getting rammed for 11 hits and five earned runs. Davidson came on to work the seventh and fanned one.

Romona McLeod worked the complete game for the Rams, taking the loss on a 100-pitch performance where only two of the Tigers’ seven runs scored were earned.

Love, Baynes, Davidson (three RBIs) and Manning rattled off nine of Tallassee’s 12 hits. Brew Tech was led by Anderson’s three-hit performance. Brown and Tyra Johnson added two each to the tally as the three accounted for seven of the team’s total 11 hits.
