CENTRAL ALABAMA SCOREBOARD OFFICE – Hooper Academy has moved one round closer to competing for a state championship as they knocked off Monroe Tuesday inside the friendly confines of Hope Hull. The win – a 3-0 sweep of the Volunteers – moved the Lady Colts into the Regional Tournament to be played at Patrician and an opening round showdown with the host Lady Saints.
“We have some work to do before next week, but we are looking forward to the regional tournament and excited to continue working toward our goal,” said Jessi Hayes, coach of the Lady Colts. “I’m very proud of these girls so far, but we aren’t done yet. We have some important games coming up that are for seeding in the Elite 8. We have to stay focused and take it a game at a time.”
Edgewood and South Choctaw comprise the rest of the Regional Bracket. The two winning teams will play for Numbers 1 and 2 seeds Thursday afternoon at 4 in the regional championship game. The losing two teams will play for seeds 3 and 4 at two.
On the other side – at Cornerstone – Chambers, Coosa Valley, Lakeside School and the host Chargers will be battling to complete the state tournament bracket seeding.
Regardless of the finish in Thursday’s competition – all teams will advance to the Elite 8 tournament, scheduled to be played October 26 at Crampton Bowl in Montgomery.
