CENTRAL ALABAMA SCOREBOARD OFFICE – The Hornets softball quartet of Madison Champion, Raley Thorn, Caroline Willis and Cat Henson had their moment in the spotlight last week, signing National Letters of Intent to play softball on the collegiate level once they’ve finished their final season in the Hornets’ Nest .. or diamond.
Champion – “Champ” is headed to Chattahoochee Valley. So is Henson and both posed for the cameras with their families to commemorate their decision.
“Champ has started in the outfield for four years,” said Scott Meadows, Hornets Softball Coach. “She can hit for average and has some pop in her bat as well. She has led the team in steals the last couple of years because she’s not afraid to get thrown out. Cat came to the high school known only for her pitching. It didn’t take me long to realize her strength was in her hitting. She pitched as a freshman and sophomore but transitioned to first base and bats in the three-hole.”
According to Meadows – last season – Henson was an AHSAA All-Star South selection at the end of the season because of her ability shown during the season. She hit mid .400s with five home runs.
Willis is headed to Marion Military and Thorn has signed to play at Point University.
Meadows: “Caroline has also started for four years behind the plate and can swing the bat as well. Her framing of pitches and blocking abilities are second to know. Raley is a left-handed pitcher who came back from ACL Surgery last year and threw several good games taking Smiths Station and Auburn to extra innings. We will be counting on all four of them and senior Destiny Cannon to lead this otherwise young team in 2022. We are certainly proud of their accomplishments.”
