Beauregard, Elberta, Corner and Etowah Emerge in Class 1A/5A as 2022 Region Bowling Champions

     Beauregard High School’s girls clawed back from a 2-1 deficit Friday at Eastern Shore Lanes to beat Bayshore Christian 4-2 and claimed the program’s first AHSAA South Regional Bowling title.
     Beauregard advances to next week’s seventh AHSAA State Bowling Championships at for the Alley Bowling Center at Gadsden along with South runner-up Bayshore Christian and semifinalists Ramsay and Marbury.
     Eight boys’ and eight girls’ bowling squads advanced to the South and North Regional competition in Class 1A/5A and Class 6/7A with the top four finishers at each site in each division moving on the state championships Jan. 27-28.
     The teams rolled three traditional rounds on Friday with the total pins determining the seeding for the championship round. The schools played dual matches consisting of the best-of-seven Baker format games.
     Corner High School won the North Regional 1A/5A girls’ championship Friday with a 4-2 win over East Limestone in the finals. Shindig Family Entertainment Center bowling complex in Tuscaloosa hosted the North Regional.

    The Lady Jackets outscored East Limestone 808-761 in total pins. Corner also beat Etowah 4-0 and East Limestone defeated American Christian 4-3 in the semifinals. ACA actually totaled four more pins than the Pirates, 988 – 984, but lost four of the seven matches. All four teams advance the state tourney.
Elberta, Etowah Claim Boys’ 1A/5A Region Titles
      Elberta   beat John Carroll Catholic 4-1 in the semifinals and Satsuma 4-1 in the finals to win the South Regional boys’ title Friday. Elberta outscored the Cavaliers 827-677 and the Gators 861-764.
     Satsuma beat Marbury 4-3 in the semifinals with a 1,007 pin total. Marbury in one of the top matches of Friday’s competition. All four teams move to the state tourney.
     In the North Regional, Etowah posted a 4-2 victory over American Christian in the boys’ finals at Shindig Family Entertainment Center Friday. The Blue Devils totaled 1,041 pins and the Patriots had 982 in the Baker format match.
    American Christian downed West Point 4-3 in the semifinals totaling 1,048 pins. West Point had 1,002. Etowah beat East Limestone 4-2 with 1,022 pins. The defending state champion Pirates had 982. East Limestone advanced out of round one with a 4-3 victory over St. Clair County despite totaling 57 less pins. 
    The Class 6A/7A final round was set for the afternoon session at both sites Friday and was still underway at 4 p.m. Friday.
