BIRMINGHAM – For the second season, the Prattville Christian Panthers will be playing for a 3A basketball championship. The Panthers knocked off Plainview Tuesday morning, winning 53-36. That victory was fueled by a 24-3 first period run.

“Coming into this game, we knew this was business and nothing was guaranteed,” said Ella Jane Connell in the postgame media scrum. “It’s been our goal all season to make it back here. We have amazing coaches that have prepared us to come here.”

Connell finished the game with 12 points and seven rebounds, second to Hannah Jones. Jones scored 21 and grabbed 17 boards, posting another double-double to add to her collection. Avery Rogers finished the night with 10 points.

Jones: “We had the mindset of being aggressive and not being weak. The loss (to Trinity in the area championship) gave us the mindset to have a will to be strong and to finish the game. We are playing for each other and for all of our teammates right now.”

Ali Price led the Bears with nine points. Kami Sanders and Lauren Jimmerson finished with seven each.

Plainview – coming into the game – did most of their damage from long range. Coach Jason Roberson had his Panthers coached up to extend the perimeter and force them inside. Even with that set in place, Plainview still rattled off 26 three-pointers (sinking five) and doubling up PCA’s effort behind the arch (5-of-13).

“They had a lot of guards that switch and mostly shot 3’s,” said Avery Rogers. “So we switched up our defense to make them uncomfortable. We knew that every possession matters, and if we play each possession as hard as we can, we can win another championship.”

PCA will get their shot a repeat Friday against Susan Moore. The 3A championship game tips at 12:30 and will be broadcast on NFHS.
