CENTRAL ALABAMA SCOREBOARD OFFICE – Last season Jackson Academy got knocked on its heels by a rallying Lowndes Academy in the Class A State Championship. Lowndes rallied and defeated Jackson 21-6 handing the Eagles only their third loss in two seasons. This season, the Eagles are unbeaten and outscoring their opponents 518-95. But on Thursday, they are going to line up against a group of Rebel defenders that has forced 10 turnovers and scored 103 points in two rounds of postseason football.

“Our team is playing well,” said Shane Moye, Coach of the Rebels. “Jackson Academy has a great football team with a great coaching staff. They are big, physical and well-coached. They will be very prepared for this game.”

Lowndes Academy isn’t undefeated, having lost to Macon-East to start the season and (like most everyone else) to top-ranked Patrician (who’s playing for the Class AA Championship by the way) The Rebels rounded up the troops and ended the regular season with a string of wins over Patrician, Lakeside, Crenshaw Christian and Hooper.

In the postseason, Lowndes eviscerated Snook (68-12) and then shut out Southern (35-0) to advance to the finale. Jackson demoralized the Chiefs of Lakeside (58-0) and then defeated Crenshaw Christian (22-6) to advance to the championship game.

Clayton Hussey runs the Rebels’ offense and according to Moye, has played “really well for

the entire season leading our offense.” Cooper Dansby captains the defense, leading the team in tackles. Clay Duncan, Trey Thomas and Noah Smith are senior captains and also a part of last year’s championship team.

Kickoff for Thursday’s Class A State Championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl.
